Fingerprint Christmas thank you cards

Recently, I shared with you the footprint cards we made for the people who bought Isla's Christmas presents and I thought I'd also write a similar post about the cards my son made for his. We made four different card designs, all using fingerprints. I found these ideas in a craft book I often turn to when I'm looking for something to do with Tommy. I've also seen similar activities on Pinterest.

We chose to stick to a wintery theme and eventually opted for penguins, robins, snowmen and reindeer. These are all super easy to make and the finished cards are really cute.

Penguins

We started making our penguin cards by using a black thumbprint for the penguin's body and a fingertip print for the head. Once dry, we used white to add a thumbprint tummy and fingertip face. I then added some wing detail, feet and beaks with felt-tips.

Reindeer

For the reindeer, we used brown thumbprints and then I added a nose, eyes, ears and antlers with felt-tip pens.

Snowmen

For the snowmen version, we used thumbprints to make the heads/bodies and then I added hats, scarves, buttons etc. with felt-tip pen.

Robins

For the robins, we used brown fingerprints for the heads and bodies and red fingertip prints for their red chests. I added wings, feet, beaks and eyes with felt tip.

Tommy really enjoyed making these and we had fun working together on them. He liked seeing them come alive when we added the extra details with pen. Tommy was happy to produce lots of these cards, as they were quick and easy for him to make.

  1. They're really cute! We made Christmas cards using fingerprints at our baby and toddler group. The parents got a bit addicted! Seeing inanimate looking fingerprint blobs turning into cute Christmassy pictures in front of their eyes was brilliant. I printed a bunch of ideas from Pinterest so we could magpie ideas... And they included most of the designs you've done with Tommy!
